ITALIAN PORK CHOPS

4 thick cut pork loin chops
Salt and pepper to taste
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
½ pound fresh mushrooms, sliced
1 medium onion, chopped
1 small clove garlic, crushed
2 medium-sized green peppers, cut into thin strips
2 (8-oz) cans tomato sauce
¼ tsp whole oregano or basil
1 tablespoons lemon juice
¼ cup dry sherry
Sprinkle pork chops with salt and pepper; brown on both sides in hot oil. Place chops in a shallow 2-quart baking dish; cover with mushrooms and set aside.
Add onion, garlic and green pepper to skillet; cook until tender. Add remaining ingredients and simmer 5 minutes; pour over chops. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes or until chops are done.
